Following suit with last year’s championship season, the BC High hockey team is off to the Garden this Sunday, playing Pope Francis once again.

This outcome only seemed natural as the Eagles accomplished a 16-2-2 regular season record — earning them the #1 seed in the Super 8 tournament. Breezing past opponents Marshfield (4-2) and Arlington (5-3) in the first and second rounds, the Eagles showed no signs of stopping.

The team was, “working hard on both sides of the puck. All of our practice was paying off,” said Senior Captain CJ Martin.

But this chemistry was sure to be tested by Pope Francis in the third round. The matchup, at Stoneham Arena, was painted with rivalry and both teams knew they were in for a tough 45 minutes. In a truly back-and-forth game, BC High fell to Pope Francis 3-2. It wasn’t the end of the line for the Eagles though, with double elimination giving them another chance for the finals.

Martin said, “It was a tough loss but we kept the morale high. One loss wasn’t going to ruin our hopes for the Garden.” Last night (March 14th), BC High battled it out with Catholic Conference rival Xaverian.

“The place was electric. We really showed up in support for the Eagles,” says BC High superfan Sean O’Connell ’19. The support clearly went a long way, as the Eagles crushed the Hawks 7-4. Number 27 for the Eagles, Senior Thomas Kramer, led the charge with 2 goals and 2 assists. CJ Martin also played well, finishing with 3 assists.

“It was an all-team effort. Our work is not over yet though. Pope Francis has been playing well, so we’re just gonna have to step it up,” says Martin.

BC High is set to play Pope Francis again in the Super 8 Championship at the TD Garden this Sunday (March 17th) at 5:45pm.
